The Catoctin Center for Regional Studies had specific goals for its new web site… to create a new resource library with photographs, maps, newspaper clippings and soldier diaries for scholastic research.
Wood Street started by organizing the site map and outlining multiple databases needed to display the information the audience would want. To bring an authentic feel for the Crossroads of War site, Wood Street began by pulling countless textures and elements related to the Civil War era. These elements were then applied to a framework of call outs and content arranged for flexibility. The resulting framework represents aging paper and article clippings, which are bordered by motifs of the union and confederate flags. The type was derived from traditional circa 1850’s newspaper typefaces and adds to the boldness of the design. Other templates for resource landing pages and sub pages were designed to best organize the supplied database of content.
